Two works from the heated political atmosphere of East and West Berlin in the 1970s (Katzer and Grosskopf) avoid direct confrontation but take a stand through non-verbal associations. Christian Wolff’s Changing the System is a classic of the politicized avant-garde of that era, in which the performance situation itself illustrates social processes. The instrumentation of Boris Filanovsky’s piece already refers to its theme, the precarious situation of street musicians.
